A complete fast is designed to free enzymes normally occupied with digestion. Our objective in a complete fast is to free enzymes so that they can heal the body and repair damaged internal organs.

                                             

The term “complete fast” is used here to mean no food except air, sun and water. A complete fast will shut down the digestive system and allow the body to redirect enzymes needed to repair internal organs. This is an amazing experience for the mind, the body and the spirit.

 

Digestion is a demanding process on the body’s resources. It is further exacerbated by the fact that almost all the foods we ingest are dead and have no live enzymes to facilitate digestion. Therefore your body must use its own enzymes to digest the organic material you have piled into your stomach.

 

Eating live food such as fresh produce requires no internal body enzymes because whole food is alive and carries its own digestive enzymes. Cooking fresh produce of course kills the enzymes.

 

When you fast, all the enzymes your body would normally use for digestion are diverted to other more productive activity, like rebuilding your liver cells or removing cancerous materials from your lymphatic system or just slowing down the aging process.

 

It is in this spirit that BBM will do a three day fast for the MLK weekend and invites all members to join either physically or in spirit. We will begin at 12AM Friday and end 12AM Monday (72 hours).

  

For those new to fasting we offer the following recommendations:

 

  • If this is your first fast you might want to do a one day complete fast (24 hours) or do a two or three day liquid fast (no solid foods) instead; if you choose a liquid fast insure that you intake whole foods from fresh juices (no alcohol, sodas, et al …)

 

  • Once digestion stops you will no longer feel hunger

 

  • You may need to change your regular routine so as to accommodate this time of fasting; you should not attempt extreme physical activity

 

  • Once digestion stops, your body will experience a unique sensation and you will feel aspects of your person not usually obvious to you; seek those closest and dearest to you during this time

 

  • If you do the complete three day fast be aware that by breakfast day three you will not desire food - break your fast gently; plan a light appropriate meal, nothing heavy and share the experience with someone you love

 

  • Don’t worry if you are unable to fast with us; we will do this again another day, just keep us in your hearts

This "fasting" was a very eye open chance for me to honor DR. MLK!  I hope you make this an annual event on this web site.  I had the chance to be reminded of our struggle for equality.  I viewed his speeches an other materials on facebook and youtube.  We yet have a long way to go in our struggle for equal right and justice.  Thanks for helping with our body/mind/ soul and spirit.
