black bodybuilders & musclemen
A member - Carlos Aguilar posted a link to a go fund me page for bodybuilder Tay Gorilla Season. I checked the page out and It was a very nice write up about Tay and the goals and purpose for the funding. Wow, in 4 days he's received almost 80% of the funds requested. I am just as excited as he must be BECAUSE- " WHO KNEW".
When I hear about GO FUND ME PAGES, it is mostly related to a news story you see about a family or person dealing with some tragic or unfortunate life issue. Checking further I see the spectrum is very broad for request for funding.
FROM COLLEGE TUITION, NEED A NEW ROOF OR I WANT A NEW CAR. I admire Tay for stepping forward and asking for help. YOU ain't gotta be rich to help. I've seen from $5 to an incredible $1,000.00 donation for this funding- OUTSTANDING.
SO, ARE WE CHARTING NEW TERRITORY HERE FOR BODYBUILDING AND FUNDING ? I checked further and there were less than 10 people from a google search.
ANYBODY WANT TO DISCUSS THIS ?
Thanks Johnny for the input. Yes The supplement sponsors are there. I see on BBM Facebook page there is a guy always looking to sponsor. Tay is going for a pro card and on the go fund me page a person could donate in general . There were also separate donations for the flight, hotel etc. to include the $400 registration cost. I had no idea this was so expensive. Having raised 86% of the 2,500 requested is awesome. Almost 6 days into it this is great . I am not sure of the BBM sponsors, but this sure seems to be a viable alternative for up coming BB short on cash. A closed mouth don't get fed. Thanks Johnny
Going the crowdfunding route is the best way to get sponsorship for bodybuilding/physique competition. Sadly, the other alternative is going into adult entertainment (porn, male exotic dancing, escorting, etc..) and losing a pro card or major sponsorship.
It sure seems like it. Followers from Fb, Instagram and the like chime in with donations and these guys ain't gotta wait on no rich daddies or get pimped out on sites like MG doing a worship scene. Don't get me wrong, some of those scenes are hot, but every BB ain't trying to go down that road. I can always count on you Johnny for discussion.
GOAL IS REACHED IN 8 DAYS. EXCELLENT.
Dear Gary M., What a well written note you have shared about 'funding' for bodybuilders. Congratulations for that and I wish you well too ... larryfaye
Hi Larry Faye, Thanks for your comment. I am surprised some BB did not comment. Anyway, in Gorilla Taye's case, he is a very fine xxxAlpha looking dude and Go Fund Me worked perfect for him.
I found these to articles when I search for GOFundMe. I'd be very careful with the it. They want a lot of personal info including your SS #! One man said he'd give it zero stars if it were possible. Did Tay get his money?
He most certainly did get his money and was very thankful for the response.
I certainly did not have to enter a SS# to donate, I'm not sure of all the stuff a person being funded- what they need to do.
The news is always having a story about a tragedy- go fund me page to donate or help the cause.
Of course- there are scams with anything. Get on a computer and some jerk wants to steal your info,,, etc.
I am not convinced your scambook link- isn't a case of sour grapes or that the guy didn't do what he was supposed to. He should have known how he was to be paid.
People should research ANY avenue for crowdfunding before submitting personal information such as a SSN. Sites should ensure information submitted be encrypted using 128-bit encryption. Data breaches and Internet fraud are the new normal in online transactions, therefore, people need common sense in setting up campaigns on these crowdfunding platforms. Having replied to garry m, Tay seemed to have done well through this channel to fund his bodybuilding career. At the same time, bodybuilders and physique competitors must be careful in seeking out sponsorships. Sadly, some sponsors take undue advantage of these men.
Any credit card info- should be encrypted. With the Lock symbol to indicate its a secure site.
Folks get scammed for money right in churches,,, OK,
YES- A PERSON SHOULD RESEARCH OUT THINGS SUCH AS GO FUND ME. . THE GUY IN THE LINK DIDN'T AND THEN WANTED THE DONATIONS REFUNDED . blah blah blah. SOUR GRAPES I SAY.
Go fund me is a viable option for a bb to get funds vs. whatever else is out there. Mr. Raines had a goal- and broke down how the money was to be spent. ,,,,A worthy donation.
